Alongside the annual glut of traditional stage versions of Dickens's A Christmas Carol comes the annual glut of riffs and parodies, some of which manage to become perennial favorites in their own right. Case in point: Tyler Bohne and Patrick Zielinski's hep-cat take on Scrooge's transformative Christmas Eve, now in its ninth annual incarnation. Looking something like the Blues Brothers and sounding something like Dr. John crossed with Rowlf the Dog from the Muppets, Bohne and Zielinski tell the entire tale in jazzy, rhyming couplets inspired by Lord Buckley's 1950s hipster monologues. Not quite as funny as Buckley's own material, the show nevertheless has an attention-grabbing rhythm and a pair of amiable performances keyed to just the right pitch. --Zac Thompson
