Pegasus Players' 23rd annual showcase of one-acts by Chicago high school students manages to feel fresh even when it's stale. Consisting of the three winning entries in a playwriting contest, the evening has an infectious, yearning energy that more than compensates for occasional cliches in the writing. In "The Bench" by Jihad Kheperu, a park bench serves as point-of-rendezvous for three couples facing long odds. Vincent del Toral contributes "Dine 'n' Hash," a genuinely funny farce about a hectic family dinner. And Raina Sun's "Where We Have Been," the best of the lot, portrays a mismatched pair of lovers (dreamer and pragmatist) with precision and gentle sadness. Ably performed by a cast of adults, the trio make for an altogether encouraging night of theater. --Zac Thompson
