Internships

We are always looking for interns to assist in each of the following departments:

  • News & Politics
  • Arts & Culture
  • Music
  • Food & Drink
  • Social Media and Web
  • Graphic Design
  • Photography

Intern duties involve everything from assistance with the publication's work flow (data entry, fact checking, transcription, uploading articles to our website, page design, photo gathering) to pitching and writing short pieces, blog posts, and longer articles within your department.

Interns are required to work at least ten hours a week, but you can work as many hours beyond that as you like. The internships are unpaid, and we'll need to sign for college credit (but there is free cereal and candy and coffee in our office—sometimes even pizza!).

Applicants should send a resumé, cover letter, and two to three relevant clips or a portfolio of your work to interns@chicagoreader.com.

The deadlines for applications for each term are as follows:

  • Winter, December 1
  • Spring, March 1
  • Summer, May 1
  • Fall, August 1

We will only consider applicants currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.

Please include in the subject line the department that's of greatest interest to you.
